Why zeb was the ideal combination of traditional banking and consulting for me, how collaboration works in day-to-day project work, and why you quickly feel like a "consultant for a limited time" as an intern. A personal insight into a varied internship with exciting tasks, a high level of responsibility, and an open corporate culture.

Why did you decide to do an internship at zeb and what was the application process like?

I decided to do an internship at zeb because the clear focus on financial services – especially in the context of regional banks – appeals to me and fits perfectly with my professional background. As my previous experience was mainly in traditional banking, zeb was the ideal combination for me, giving me an opportunity to get to know the world of consulting as well as to deepen my knowledge of financial services. The application process was very transparent and well-structured, and the colleagues who conducted the interview were open and friendly, which gave me a good feeling early on about what to expect from the internship.

How was your internship supervised/supported?

During my internship, I was supervised by my CDC (Career Development Counselor), who acted as a kind of mentor and whose projects I had the opportunity to work on. We had both regular and ad hoc meetings, during which I could bring up topic-related questions I wanted to discuss as well as receive feedback on my development. In addition to my CDC, the other consultants whom I worked with on my projects were always there to support me, so I felt in very good hands, both on a professional and on a personal level.

How would you describe the atmosphere at zeb?

I found the working atmosphere at zeb to be consistently positive. The colleagues I worked with were super motivated, which encouraged me even more to give my best. By regularly switching offices, I was able to get to know many different teams and Practice Groups – all colleagues were super nice and I got on with them very well.

What did you appreciate most about your internship?

What I appreciated most was how varied my project work was. By taking on a wide variety of tasks, asking questions and participating in workshop formats at the client, I was able to learn a lot in little time. I also found it exciting to get to know different banks and companies at close quarters and thus gain a broad insight into the financial industry. What I particularly liked was that even as an intern, you are fully involved in the projects you’re assigned to, assume responsibility and therefore feel a bit like a “temporary consultant”.

Were your expectations of your internship at zeb fulfilled?

Yes, my expectations of the internship at zeb were fully met. I wanted to get a comprehensive impression of the consulting industry – from project work to traveling through to challenging tasks – and that’s exactly what I got.

What was your typical working day like – which tasks and topics kept you particularly busy?

There was hardly a truly “typical” working day, as the days differed significantly depending on the project phase and client context. In general, I worked either at the office or at the client’s premises, although working from home would also have been possible. In terms of content, my main focus was on the analysis and evaluation of client data and strategic issues, the preparation and follow-up of workshop formats as well as the preparation of different types of results.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in an internship at zeb?

I can only recommend that anyone interested in consulting and the financial services industry apply for an internship at zeb. In my view, zeb offers the ideal “fit” of classic consulting, exciting topics relating to banks and financial services providers as well as a modern, open corporate culture.
