Insurance and consulting at zeb – “The sky is the limit”

Release date: 25 November 2024

Interested in a career that combines insurance and management consulting topics? I’m Sonja, I’ve been with zeb for four years, and I’m part of our Insurance team. This means that my colleagues and I advise our clients from the insurance industry. But what topics does zeb actually cover in insurance? As the headline suggests, we have wide-ranging expertise and offer consulting solutions on various topics. Therefore, we can truthfully say: “The sky is the limit!”

Advising insurance companies involves a lot more than reading general terms and conditions of insurance policies or calculating key figures. At zeb, we comprehensively advise our clients in the insurance sector in all lines of business and along the entire value chain, from strategy to operational aspects in projects and the respective specialist areas. We realign the business models of insurance companies, optimize operational and organizational structures for entire divisions and support IT transformation projects in terms of both subject matter and technology.

As a consultant, you gain a comprehensive insight into the diverse topics of the insurance industry. Both generalists and specialists join our team. As a generalist, you get to deal with a very wide range of topics at first. However, once you reach the Manager position or even before, you start focusing on one topic or area in which you develop specialist expertise. Specialists, by contrast, use their particular knowledge right from the start. We cover the following range of topics:

Property & casualty, health, and life: Following the traditional separation of lines of business (LOB) in insurance, we provide our clients with specialist advice in precisely these areas. Be it business model optimization, workflow management or customer management – from the initial application to contract management, we discuss pain points in portfolio management with our clients and help them to implement target pictures. Together with the experts in the respective LOB, the teams support the client in specialist issues.

Sales: The most important interface between customer demands and the range of services offered by insurance companies is the sales department. We advise our clients on current issues, including hybrid sales and service models, bancassurance, exclusive agency arrangements and the necessary technological foundations for cross-channel communication with customers.

Claims: In the “moment of truth”, rapid claims assessment and assistance through appropriate measures play a key role for insurance companies. In recent years, zeb has supported many insurance companies in realigning their claims strategy, improving their claims processes and restructuring their organizations. This allows us to not only optimize the experience for insurance customers, but also to achieve a long-term impact on the results of the insurance groups.

Finance and regulation: Finance and regulation are what you find when looking “under the hood”. In addition to the operational customer business, there are many regulatory requirements to be met – especially against the backdrop of VAG, Solvency II, IFRS 17, MaGo, VAIT, DORA and others. At the same time, finance is an important lever in the strategic alignment of insurance groups. In recent years, we have used our expertise to advise our clients on process efficiencies in finance, the use of smart analytics in controlling, risk management and capital investment as well as on the development of data strategies/management and have helped them to create new solutions.

IT: At zeb, we advise our clients along the entire IT value chain – from strategy, operationalization and implementation to IT compliance and regulatory issues. Our work focuses on supporting our clients in their transformation and paving the way for tomorrow’s IT. We aim at the best possible design from an organizational and technological perspective. Thanks to the unique combination of comprehensive IT as well as subject-matter expertise and in-depth market knowledge, we have our finger on the pulse of the industry’s transformation towards modern IT. In our projects, we are therefore strategy consultants or solution architects or act in operational roles – always in critical positions alongside the decision-makers at our clients.

This is just a small selection of the wide range of topics covered by our insurance team. Other focus areas include operations/TOM, data analytics and AI, as well as sustainability and ESG. We also work closely with the other teams at zeb. Colleagues from zeb.move and TABULARAZA support us in change management and agile methodologies. Our research department supports our analyses of the market and the competition. Collaborating with our international insurance colleagues is another important aspect of our work.

The insurance team at zeb offers me the opportunity to gain in-depth insights into a wide range of topics, but also allows me to find my own specialization. This gives me space to grow and, above all, the flexibility (especially at the start of my career) to gain experience in various areas. In my four years at zeb so far, I have personally got to know a wide variety of projects – from large implementation projects or strategy projects in IT to process optimization programs. I am currently focusing on property & casualty, expanding my specialist knowledge in my current projects. So, the sky is indeed the limit – for me personally as well.
