Tips for your application
If you are currently going through the application phase and are interested in zeb as an employer, you probably have a lot of questions: How should I structure my CV? How do I conduct myself in an (online) job interview? We took these questions as prompts to have our Talent Attraction team put together a few dos and don’ts:
Dos: before your application
- Spend some time researching and developing a clear picture of the future job and the aspects that are most important to you.
- Also find out everything you can about the company itself to see how much you can identify with zeb as an employer.
Dos: your documents
- Submit your certificates and references, making sure that you include all work references and your academic degree certificate.
- Your school-leaving certificate is also one of the relevant documents.
- If you are applying for an internship, please state the period of time you are available and your preferred location.
- A structured CV, tailored to the position’s requirements, is key! All relevant information should be available at a glance, i.e. on one page.
- Optional: write a letter of motivation explaining why you are enthusiastic about consulting in the financial sector and what contribution you are willing and able to make that sets you apart from other candidates.
Dos: your interview
- Be authentic, honest and yourself.
- Prepare for case interviews where you can demonstrate your problem-solving skills.
- Answer the questions you are asked precisely and in a well-structured manner. Feel free to take a moment to think before you answer.
- Think about what you want to know from the people you are talking to, because at the end of the interview it is your turn to ask questions.
- Emphasize why you want to work for zeb and show that you are well-informed about the company.
Don'ts: before your application
- You should not start the application process without an honest analysis of whether the position really matches your skills and interests.
Don'ts: your documents
- Without a clear structure, your CV will not serve its purpose of providing a systematic overview. Keep it as compact as possible and include only relevant stations.
- Avoid mistakes in your CV (and cover letter, if applicable). They suggest that you lack diligence.
- If you are writing a cover letter, do not exaggerate in your own presentation, but give an authentic impression of yourself.
Don'ts: Your interview
- Buzzword bingo with no underlying deeper substance does not go down well and in most cases the experts will expose it straight away.
- Avoid arithmetical errors when working on the case and double-check your calculations to avoid presenting a false result.
- If you do not stand by your development potential, you may appear unreflective and lacking in credibility.
- Even if you have already clarified a lot during the interview, you may appear disinterested or unmotivated if you do not ask your interviewer(s) any questions.
