Internships are known to be an exciting opportunity to gain some first insights into the day-to-day work of certain professional fields. In her interview, Britt talks about how she benefited from these and the valuable experiences available to an intern in zeb’s Embedded Research Area. She was assigned a variety of interesting tasks that gave her a good impression of the work done in Embedded Research and the importance of good teamwork.

You completed your internship in zeb’s Embedded Research. Did you get in touch with other interns there?

Yes, definitely! In the LEAP Domain, which Embedded Research is a part of, we regularly got in touch, for example during our weekly virtual “Leap into the Week” calls, in which we discussed our current tasks with the rest of the team. We even got to work together quite often, for example on a client project that involved several interns. Moreover, I was sometimes assigned tasks that other interns had begun to work on before me, which allowed me to ask them for valuable advice and benefit from their experience.

Independently of the project work, all Research interns met weekly for a “coffee talk”. This was a great opportunity to keep each other up-to-date and share the knowledge we had gained. We always knew what the others were working on and were able to support each other.

How did the internship go and how do you think it differs from a regular consulting internship?

Embedded Research really offers “the best of both worlds”. On the one hand, there’s the classic project work that everyone associates with consulting. On the other hand, you get to do lots of exciting research tasks, which makes the internship so rich in variety. Even as an intern, you are given the chance to contribute to studies or formats such as the “zeb.market flash”. Compared to a typical consulting internship, the range of tasks is much wider, including in-depth analytical tasks as well as practical client project work.

What was the most important experience you made during your internship? What did you enjoy the most?

One of the most important experiences for me was traveling to Munich and Koblenz to participate in client workshops as part of two projects I worked on. The direct insights into client work and the opportunity to actively participate in these workshops really inspired me, and I had a lot of fun, too. It gave me a very good impression of the everyday work of consultants – from preparing the workshop to interacting with the clients through to the follow-up work.
Another absolute highlight was the Research Day in Münster. The entire Research team met in person to discuss current topics. It was exciting to see what our colleagues were working on and which projects and acquisitions were in focus at that time. Moreover, it was a great opportunity to get to know our colleagues better and spend time with the other interns on an informal basis. For example, we shared several meals and went canoeing together.

In your opinion, who should apply for an internship in zeb’s Embedded Research?

If you are motivated to learn a lot, take on responsibility and are interested in banking and insurance-related topics, you should definitely apply for an Embedded Research internship. Initial experience with MS Office products is definitely an advantage – especially if you are not afraid of large Excel spreadsheets and enjoy creating PowerPoint decks.

I would recommend this internship particularly to all those who feel like taking on small projects of their own. zeb’s Embedded Research offers an interesting mix of independent tasks and teamwork and is perfect for anyone who likes to work analytically and strategically.
