Our IT4u program allows all permanent employees of our German companies to lease IT devices for private use via zeb. Once the leasing period ends, you can assume ownership of the leased products at favourable terms. The leasing installments are deducted directly from your gross salary – so you save on taxes and benefit from a lower overall price. Development
Apprenticeship

During your apprenticeship, we will support you at all levels: we help you pay for your learning materials, grant you time off for exam preparations and offer you an extensive range of additional training opportunities – and, what is more, you are very likely to enter into a permanent position directly after successfully obtaining your certificate. At the start of your apprenticeship, a second- or third-year apprentice will support you and act as a mentor alongside your supervisor.

I have a pioneering personality and love finding creative solutions to business challenges. At applied, I have found a great environment for responsible tasks which I can work on with motivated colleagues, giving me plenty of opportunities to grow.

What has been your most exciting task so far?

One of my most exciting tasks was helping to shape a software partnership with a foreign core banking system provider. This involved combining two different software products to form a new product. The project provided new perspectives, content and contacts at international clients.

What’s your typical day like?

My working days are structured by meetings in which my colleagues and I show clients the zeb.control software or discuss aspects of software implementation with them. In between the meetings, I’m in charge of proposal processes, which can involve an onslaught of information.

What do you like most about your role as a cloud operations engineer?

The work in the SaaS team is incredibly varied! In addition to technical tasks and the optimization of the AWS Cloud, topics such as the design of processes and the expansion of our IT Ops are on the agenda, but also the need to acquire new knowledge and deal with the latest technologies. The system monitoring and problem analysis are hands-on and give you the possibility to implement your own ideas to automate the operation in a professional way and for the long term. I get to use modern DevOps tools and provide input for the further development of the infrastructure.

What was the most exciting task/project so far and why?

My current project. We are designing an application that evaluates the sustainability of commercial borrowers in the three dimensions of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).
I enjoy dealing with the topic of sustainability, which is becoming increasingly important. The same goes for the collaboration with colleagues (also external ones) and the client.

What do you like most about your role as a software developer?

I particularly enjoy the independent way of working and the variety of challenging technical and banking-related tasks. I also like the appreciative and collegial environment.

What surprised you most about zeb?

The programming language Scala that we use in our project. Because I didn’t know it before. Scala is very much based on category-theoretical structures, which particularly appeals to me as a trained theoretical mathematician.

What were your first weeks like and what were your impressions of zeb?

I spent my first weeks at zeb as an intern. From the very first day, I experienced a very appreciative and respectful atmosphere among colleagues, which was also characterized by a high level of subject-matter expertise. There were no boring, “typical intern tasks”, which meant that I never felt like a “fifth wheel on the wagon”.
